Rusholme councillor shares vision for ‘strong and united’ Manchester
Plus: We give you our top recommendations for Saint Patrick’s Day in Manchester this weekend.
Hello, and welcome to The Northern Quota newsletter.
Who could it be? Leslie again! Hope you’re all doing well. I’ll be honest, I’ve not got a clue what to ramble about this time, everything has been such a blur of activity in the newsroom. We’ve been working hard on the big, shiny new print edition coming this April, but since we have to keep the details a surprise for now, what else is there for me to yap about here? The weather? The sport? The four kilos of Greek yoghurt I’ve got in the fridge at the moment? The Derry Girls’ Uncle Colm said it best of all - sometimes I really will just say things to get me from one sentence to the other.
As always, thank you for checking in to The Northern Quota newsletter, where we’ll be bringing you our favourite stories from our trainee reporters every week, from our newsroom to your inbox.
Featured story:
In this week’s featured story, NQ’s Faraz Arian gives us yet another fantastic feature - this time on Rusholme councillor Rabnawaz Akbar. Here, Faraz and Cllr. Akbar dive deep into both the highs and the lows of his career as a Labour councillor over the years, as well as highlight Cllr. Akbar’s visions for a ‘stronger, more united’ Manchester heading into the future.
Today on Student Radar:
In this week’s edition of Student Radar, Ellie Double, Ella Venn, and Alice Coombs team up to give this week’s news and sports headlines, their top recommendations for things to do in Manchester this weekend, and their response to the latest Question of the Week: ‘How do I get to the Peak District for a Spring hike?’
In the Student Segment this week, Ellie and Ella take a seat with Sarah Gent, the recently-elected station manager of University Radio York, while she gives her insight into her day-to-day in radio as Student Radar looks to take the leap into live broadcasting. No matter what the future may hold, we’ll all hugely miss our friends in the radio booth - we’ll be wishing Ellie, Ella, and the rest of the team the very best of luck!
